Matthew 19:28
King James Version
28 And Jesus said unto them,
Verily I say unto you,
That ye which have followed me,
in the regeneration when the Son of man
shall sit in the throne of his glory,
ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones,
judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Who were the LORD's apostles?
Why should you care?
I hope you do, for JESUS chose them.
Here's what Scripture says:
Mark 3:13-19
King James Version
13 And he goeth up into a mountain,
and calleth unto him whom he would:
and they came unto him.
14 And he ordained twelve,
that they should be with him,
and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses,
and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee,
and John the brother of James;
and he surnamed them Boanerges,
which is, The sons of thunder:
18 And Andrew,
and Philip,
and Bartholomew,
and Matthew,
and Thomas,
and James the son of Alphaeus,
and Thaddaeus,
and Simon the Canaanite,
19 And Judas Iscariot*,
which also betrayed him:
and they went into an house.
*NOTE:
After Judas betrayed JESUS, here's what happened to him.
Matthew 27:3-5
King James Version
3 Then Judas,
which had betrayed him,
when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself,
and brought again the thirty pieces of silver
to the chief priests and elders,
4 Saying,
I have sinned
in that I have betrayed the innocent blood.
And they said,
What is that to us?
see thou to that.
5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple,
and departed,
and went and hanged himself.
What did the priests and elders do with the 30 pieces of silver?
Matthew 27:6-8
King James Version
6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces,
and said,
It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury,
because it is the price of blood.
7 And they took counsel,
and bought with them the potter's field,
to bury strangers in.
8 Wherefore that field was called,
The field of blood,
unto this day.
The Bible says this fulfilled a prophecy.
Matthew 27:9-10
King James Version
9 Then was fulfilled
that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet,
saying,
And they took the thirty pieces of silver,
the price of him that was valued,
whom they of the children of Israel did value;
10 And gave them for the potter's field,
as the Lord appointed me.
What did the apostles think of Judas, after the betrayal?
This is what Peter declared:
Acts 1:16-20
King James Version
16 Men and brethren,
this scripture must needs have been fulfilled,
which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David
spake before concerning Judas,
which was guide to them that took Jesus.
17 For he was numbered with us,
and had obtained part of this ministry.
18 Now this man purchased a field
with the reward of iniquity;
and falling headlong,
he burst asunder in the midst,
and all his bowels gushed out.
19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem;
insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue,
that is to say,
The field of blood.
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms,
Let his habitation be desolate,
and let no man dwell therein:
and his bishoprick let another take.
Just a few more notes:
In Matthew 27, it says the Judas hanged himself.
In Acts, Peter says Judas fell.
In Matthew 27, it says the chief priests bought the potter's field.
In Acts, Peter implies it was Judas who did so.
But one thing both books agree, is that the potter's field is called the "field of blood".
Having a Berean approach, we shall look into these in the near future.
Who took Judas' place, after he died?
Here's what we found:
Acts 1:22-26
King James Version
22 Beginning from the baptism of John,
unto that same day that he was taken up from us,
must one be ordained to be a witness with us
of his resurrection.
23 And they appointed two,
Joseph called Barsabas,
who was surnamed Justus,
and Matthias.
24 And they prayed, and said,
Thou, Lord,
which knowest the hearts of all men,
shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship,
from which Judas by transgression fell,
that he might go to his own place.
26 And they gave forth their lots;
and the lot fell upon Matthias;
and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
